Almshouses in Alford
Some Facts and Figures
Unfortunately the Trustees were unsuccessful in applying for Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) funding in the grant-aid cycle that terminated in early 2011, and without this funding stream The Scheme will not be achievable.
However the current HCA funding cycle runs from April 2011 until March 2015 and The Trustees have been successful in their bid and have been awarded a grant of £200,000, but in order to access this money have had to join with other almshouse charities from around the country to form a consortium to negotiate with the HCA.
This has entailed considerable expense in appointing a trustee as a director of the new Almshouse Consortium Ltd company and attending monthly board meetings in London. The trustees have had to keep in sight the fact that, if they do not join in, they cannot access the £200,000 grant offer.
Our estimated total spend on The Scheme is £425,000, and at the moment our cash reserves are negligible. We are actively involved in raising the balance of £225,000 that we will need to complete the works.
