U3A stands for the University of the Third Age, which is a self help organisation of people no longer in full-time employment, providing education, creative and leisure opportunities in a friendly environment. U3A membership is not related to a specific age but to a period in one’s life (the third age) after the second age of full-time employment and parental responsibility. Anybody in their third age can join U3A and this includes people who are working part time. All you need is interest and enthusiasm.
Alford & District U3A includes members from the surrounding area, and is a growing group of over 100 members. If you are interested in joining our U3A, why not come along to one of our monthly meetings, or telephone the Secretary if you would like to find out more first. We are always looking for new friends to join us and perhaps add to our group activities.
Our general meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at the Half Moon Hotel in Alford at 10.30 a.m. Members get together for a coffee and to hear what the various interest groups are doing. There is usually a guest speaker. The U3A approach to learning is – learning for pleasure.
