potter, John Snowdenwas
born and educated in Grimsby, studied ceramics in Kendal, Cumbria; and
later professionally trained in Derby. (Dip. Ceramics [Dist.]; Dip M.
Society of Industrial Artists and Designers; Crafts Council Award 1976)
The work produced in Lincolnshire
since 1976 has continually changed; exploring stoneware and raku techniques.
A range of practical domestic stoneware has been the mainstay of the business,
supplied to customers throughout Britain. A constant interest and source
of inspiration is the diversity of ceramic materials and processes. Locally
found minerals are collected and mixed with clay and glazes to develop
original colours and surface textures.
Jane
Snowden trained in Derby as a textile designer.
Numerous techniques have been used since the business started in 1976
including patchwork and appliqúe and
embroidery. Innovative and unusual cushions, hangings, waistcoats and
hats have been made for customers throughout the UK. Colour and texture
have always been paramount to her work. Both the textiles and ceramics
produced in the workshop complement each other in terms of colour and
style. Commissions are produced to customers own design.
