The Civic Trust AGM will take place on Thursday the 12th of January at 6pm at the Manor House. The meeting will be open to the public to attend, as the future of the Manor House as a public space and tourist attraction is now in doubt.
One way or another, the ‘listed building’ status of the manor house can be expected to assure the continued prominence of the distinguished property itself in the heart of the town. However, of more doubt is whether the Civic Trust’s ownership and occupation of the house as an accredited museum can continue to deliver public access to it. What then of the future?
Members of the Civic Trust have been given due notice that the 2022 Annual General Meeting of the Trust is to take place at Alford Manor House on Thursday, 12th January 2023 at 6:00 p.m. Exceptionally, the meeting will be open to the public to attend, and (at the close of the usual business of the AGM) to participate in a preliminary discussion about the future of the charity in the local and wider community; in particular, public access to the House.
This follows from information provided by the Trustees during 2022 about the impact of unprecedented increases in the Trust’s core overheads and of concerns about the age profile of the Board of management and volunteers.
