Today was the judging for the Alford Scarecrow Competition. The competition is organised by the Alford Horticultural Society and the winners will be announced at their annual show on the 3rd of August in the Corn Exchange. There is a £25 prize for the winning entry.
The judges saw an amazing 16 entries and no two were alike. They were impressed by the effort put in and the creativity of all of the entrants. I was amused to see how many of the Scarecrows clutched a bottle of beer or can of cider – the couple outside The George Inn having passed out before we arrived!
Given the number of entries from all parts of the community we hope this event could become a regular feature in the town.
Thanks are due to Alford Town Promotions who helped promote the event and The Rotary Club of Alford and Mablethorpe who joined in the fun by providing an independent judge. Alford.info was delighted to be asked to assist the judges and take the photos below.
